I. Job Summary
WM is seeking a passionate communications professional to join its internal communications team. As Senior Manager, Internal Communications you will be relied upon to collaborate with key stakeholders to imagine, develop, and execute integrated communications programs to engage and inform more than 50,000 WM team members. This individual will work closely with executives across the enterprise on employee communications planning, programming, messaging, and content development – including visual and written communications.
The primary focus of this job function is the strategic use of communications to drive employee engagement in support of WM’s vision of always working for a sustainable tomorrow. This role requires a high level of strategic thinking, independent decision making and ability to partner with other communications team members and cross-functional partners to drive results.
The ideal candidate has extensive internal communications experience with a deep passion for building communications narratives and seeing them come to life across various channels. Experience working with c-suite executives is a must. He/she also must possess a deep understanding of employee engagement and analytics; excellent written and verbal communications skills; and a strategic and creative mindset.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
Develop and manage employee engagement campaigns and programs.
Contribute to the planning and development of integrated communication strategies and tactics that effectively communicate the strategic and cultural goals and initiatives in alignment with WM’s business priorities.
Create and deploy strategic communication plans, programs, and messaging in support of WM’s People Organization to influence the early adoption and infusion of HR initiatives including Culture and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) throughout the business.
Advise and support executives on strategic communications messaging channels and delivery style.
Provide consultative services to the people organization, compliance and other critical departments that impact all employees.
Use innovative communication channels and methodologies to engage and inspire employees about WM’s commitments and values.
Optimize communication platforms and new ways of storytelling as part of an integrated communications team.
Works with field communications partners to ensure adequate awareness and understanding of communications plans, as well as their role in cascading and bringing those plans to life.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and tactics for continuous improvement.
Serve as an internal thought leader in identifying industry trends and innovation in employee communications; ensures best practices are tailored and applied to our business.
Develop and execute communications programs, including but not limited to newsletters, webinars, all employee meetings, brand advocacy programs, and more.
Acts as a key contributor and decision-maker in a fast-paced, complex, and crucial environment.
III. Supervisory Responsibilities
The role will report into the senior director, Communications, and be responsible for one direct report.
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
7-10 years of previous internal communications experience
Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in communications, marketing, or business
Strong storyteller and creative thinker
Proven track record of success in internal communications within a Fortune 250 company
Demonstrated career progression within communications function
Serve as a strategic advisor and have the ability to see the big picture
Professional demeanor with the ability to represent the company among a variety of stakeholders
Demonstrated problem solving skills
Team player who works well among a diverse team
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple tasks simultaneously
Accurate and detail-oriented
