Waste Management Corporate Compliance & Ethics Analyst in Houston, Texas

I. Job Summary

  • Work with the Chief Compliance & Ethics Officer to ensure WM and its operating areas are in compliance with all applicable external rules, regulations and laws and company policies and procedures. The focus of the position will be to help establish, maintain, document and enhance the Compliance and Ethics program. This will include developing policies, procedures, processes, communication campaigns and trainings to support the program. The position will also assist in enhancing and strengthening the company’s culture of compliance and ethics.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

  • Assist in the development of compliance processes, procedures and systems to document and monitor the performance of these activities

  • Develop and assist with the launch of new or enhanced communication campaigns, training modules, presentations and related materials

  • Assist with the management and documentation of the Compliance and Ethics programs, which will include compliance SharePoint sites, policies, procedures and risk assessments

  • Assist with administering and managing the company’s Integrity Helpline and program surveys and questionnaires

  • Engage and develop relationships with employees throughout the company to facilitate the implementation and maintenance of the Compliance and Ethics programs

  • Drive consistency of compliance activities in various business regions and areas

  • Assist with compliance reviews and audits of the compliance processes and systems

  • Coordinate the activities of the various compliance committees including setting the meetings, developing agendas, creating meeting materials, taking minutes and developing actions plans

  • Leverage technology to help enhance all compliance efforts

  • Help foster a collaborative and team-based approach to compliance

  • Strive to make complying easier for our employees and help it to become just part of their daily routines

III. Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This role has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may be responsible for leading programs.

IV. Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree (accredited), or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience: Three (3) years' previous compliance, business analysis, project management, corporate communications or audit experience (in addition to education requirement)

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Suite (particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint).

  • Experience with or a desire to learn graphic design, video/audio editing software such as: Captivate, Final Cut, Da Vinci, Soundtrack Pro (or something similar).

  • Strong project coordination/project management, organizational and planning skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with a variety of business units and different functions within those business units. Must also be able to work with all levels of management.

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and conflicting priorities with strong attention to detail.

  • Good judgment and analytical skills, with the ability and individual initiative to problem solve and trouble shoot.

  • Ability to set priorities, successfully track and complete multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Creativity and collaboration in helping to develop new ideas and ways to continue to enhance all aspects of the compliance programs.
