WM Project Estimator in Carson City, Nevada

I. Job Summary

perform Prepares general and or discipline estimates for capital cost and/or service estimates for various industrial waste services such as: processing, tank cleaning, dredging, waste management and sustainability programs. Develops basic conceptual estimates. Takes a role in estimate reviews and presentations. provides and supports data and cost analysis. Uses, and assists in development and maintenance of estimating databases. Oversee and review work completed by Associate Estimators. Executes simultaneous tasks within broadly defined parameters.

The salary range for this position is $84,745 – $114,655. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

  • Performs tasks (takeoffs vendor/pricing searches) assigned by Sr. Manager

  • Attend Prebid meetings and site walks

  • Drafts estimate plans for projects (inclusive of estimate budget) through evaluation of scope, contract, desired estimate type quality and time resources available

  • Assists in capital cost estimates

  • Reviews design scope criteria and develops quantities for undefined scope assumptions in coordination with Operations and take off Engineer

  • Prepares estimate basis and assumption documentation

  • Conducts services cost estimates

  • Creates cost models for fee calculations

  • Assists with analysis on functional input to staffing plan. Assists in estimate basis and assumption

  • Assists in integration of commercial terms and conditions into estimates

  • Prepares cost studies, trend estimates, and life cycle cost estimates in specialized areas or in specialized discipline area under supervision of Sr. Manager and Operations staff

  • Prepares basic software generated estimates for completion and technical accuracy ensuing quality and integrity

  • Establishes format and content of summaries and reconciliations, including segregation of cost according to level of confidence

III. Supervisory Responsibilities

Oversee Associate Estimators and Takeoff Engineers. Occasionally responsible for assigning activities to other employees.

IV. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

Education: Bachelor's degree (accredited), or in lieu of a degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four (4) years of relevant work experience.

Experience: Three (3) years of estimating heavy civil construction projects or similar experience (in addition to education requirement).

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

Requires knowledge of regulatory environment as it applies to civil construction, dam, landfill operations/closures, Ash Pond closure, industrial cleanups.

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

  • MS Office proficiency

  • Heavy Civil Estimating Software, P6, MS Project

  • General computer acumen and ability to learn to utilize other job-related technical software.

  • Familiarity with statistical methods.

  • Research skills

  • Familiarity with dewatering/processing, tank cleaning, dredging is beneficial.

  • Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) most of the work day;

  • Required to exert physical effort in handling objects less than 30 pounds rarely;

  • Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc.) rarely;

  • Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements a portion of the work day or week;

  • Normal setting for this job is an office setting and construction sites.
