WM Sr. Manager, Organics Engineering-Remote in Carson City, Nevada

I. Job Summary

This position works with and supports the Organics Technical Services team which serves as the lead technical resource related to the development, design, technology and equipment selection, construction, and on-going operation of organic recycling operations.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

  • Support with the development of traditional and next generation organics processing facilities, serving as one of the lead technical resources for WM’s Corporate and local Areas. Support activities range from early-stage project conception through final project engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC).

  • Primary responsibilities include the development of engineering plans, process and project design, development project scopes, project scheduling, equipment and technology selection, and overseeing EPCC activities for new facility development and modification of existing facilities.

  • Solicit, coordinate and manage the services of external contractors, including engineers, consultants, equipment vendors and construction firms to advance assigned projects from concept to commissioning.

  • Develop project scope, cost, and budget information at all stages in the development process, from early conceptualization to final bid/capital budget for approved projects.

  • In coordination with WM Area staff, manage the procurement and construction activities for assigned projects, including contract management, field oversight, coordination of trades, and adherence to approved schedules and budgets.

  • Manage the sourcing and procurement of specialized equipment and technology for organics processing operations, including the negotiation of supply agreements, pricing and terms, scheduling, delivery and installation in coordination with other trades.

  • Serve as a lead technical resource for troubleshooting, equipment selection, process adjustments and operational improvements for existing organics operations.

  • Provide consistency and discipline in project development approach, construction methods and specifications, procurement and bid management, contractor selection, and construction oversight. Ensure adherence to company procurement policies, project design specifications and quality standards.

  • Assist with the technical evaluation and development of management strategies for new and emerging organics waste streams working with the consultants, organic recycling operations managers, program managers, strategic account managers, and other WM personnel.

  • Support and perform detailed evaluations of specialized equipment, technologies, and processing methods for processing organic residuals, including management of field or academic studies. Provide written summaries and recommendations.

  • Be an available technical resource and subject matter expert (SME) to support field operations and to resolve issues or challenges faced by local WM operations related to organics management and processing.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities

The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of employees. This includes:

  • Potential direct supervision of up to two full-time employees.

IV. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (accredited) in engineering and/or sciences.

  • Experience: Seven (7) years of experience with at least three (3) years of related experience in organics processing, resource recovery, solid waste management, or related experience (in addition to education requirement).

  • Normal setting for this job is: Remote office setting outside of Houston, If in Houston Hybrid Schedule .Must live and work in the US.

The salary range for this position is $111,500 - _$169,855. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a bonus.
